Nice. Why the Shimano crank, whippy chain, though?

you know why shimano crank (and bb) - place i got stuff from was out of 172.5mm rival cranks, and ultegra was cheaper...

wipperman - i got one for my 'cross bike in the fall and really liked it. Yea, you don't need to take your chain off for cleaning for a roadbike like you do in 'cross after a mudfest, however with all the travelling I will be doing it will make things convienant. At the rate i'm going, i'll need a new chain before the summer races and probably get a sram or shimano chain and keep the wipperman link. I know I could have done that without buying a wipperman chain, but I wanted to give it a shot as I really liked it for the 'cross bike

btw, attempted to build. the bb did not like the bb shell and we (was building with a teamate) decided not to force it. going to the shop tmrw for likely a re-face of the bb shell. cables are all run, fit is dialed in, need to do bb, chain, and derailler setup and its ready to go.

Oh, right. I totally forgot about your crank thing. The ultegra cranks should be plenty stiff, I don't think they are that different from the rival ones honestly.

Let me know how that wipperman works out for you. I had one on my cross bike and it made a lot of noise and shifted poorly, while 2 other teammates trying the same chain BROKE theirs. But I didn't have the "SO" version, and it was a campy drivetrain.

Good call on getting the BB faced if it needs it.

way to scare me im going to snap it first time i get out of the saddle....didn't sram have issues with the awhile back though?

I replace chains at 1500-2000 miles once shifting starts to go, so as I said, barring injury or anything bad, this chain will be gone in may or so.

The 10s1 on the 'crosser wasnt very noisy and shifted fine, compared to the 105 chain it replaced. It has about 1000 miles give or take 100 on it. It's been used in pretty terrible conditions, winter salt/junk, mud/gunk of 'cross, dust/dirt/grime. Cleaned every other week (full, of the bike, tlc) or before every race. No issues with it and I liked it enough to get another, granted cheaper (s0 didn't exist when I got the s1)

Then again, with my somewhat lower power outputs, its a bit tougher to snap a chain for me....

At this point when I bring it in for the facing, im just gonna have them finish the build and hopefully head out for a ride late in the day
